Yam

Yam is a common name for some plant species in the genus family that form edible tubers. Yams are perennial cultivated for the consumption of their starchy tubers in many temperate and tropical regions.

Yam plants have thick tubers and generally develop off the base of the stem which often has thick skin. Yam flesh ranges in color from white to yellow and varies in taste from sweet to bitter to tasteless. At Gyarko Farms and Foods, we focused on Puna and White yam for export.
